Voter Fraud Has Started: Pass It On
    How blatant is this?

Misleading" absentee ballot applications being sent by the McCain campaign
    http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2008/09/bumped-up-misleading-absentee-ballot.html

"Misleading" absentee ballot applications are being mailed out by the McCain campaign to registered Democratic voters in purple states. The return addresses are inaccurate, as well as other information. "Misleading, lying" mailers are going out in Florida and other purple states. It's a caging tactic.

Then the Republicans tried to pass it off as an accident:

    Ballot snafu endangers votes
    http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080911/NEWS0108/309110032/

About one-third of the absentee ballot applications received at the Hamilton County Board of Elections have been ruled invalid because Republican Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign printed a version of the form with an extra, unneeded box on it.

In a narrow interpretation of Ohio law, Democratic Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says many of the McCain forms have not been completed properly. If the box stating the person is an eligible elector -- or qualified voter – is not checked, Brunner said, the application is no good.

Even though the box is unneeded, by not checking it voters are essentially admitting they’re not eligible, Brunner said.

As one commenter stated, in tones of disbelief - "Republicans printed these applications? Since when does a political party print the ballot applications?"

Just thought you ought to know. And, if you care about the integrity of the US elections, read up on it and then pass it on.

    SWEENEY
Just when it’s too late to matter, I weigh in on SWEENEY TODD. )

EDIT, 25/08/08: Just found a review which goes more deeply into the defects of the Burton version. Reading it, I had that rare sensation of being in total agreement with every single point the critic makes:

    That book meme
    1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
    2) Italicize those you intend to read
    3) Underline the books you LOVE. 3a) Strikethrough the books you HATE.
    4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who’ve read 6 and force books upon them.

    Please pass it on?
Long shot, but as It's A Small World After All:

[info]heidi8's pink Kodak camera and blue Sidekick LX were taken at Disney's Splash Mountain at around 4:30 PM on Saturday, June 7, and she's trying to get the SD cards that were in the camera and Sidekick back; they're the only copies she has of those photos. She's asking people to pass on this message via their LJ, blog, facebook, etc., in hopes of catching the eye of the person who took it - or someone who knows who did. If that person sees this post, they can go to her livejournal post at http://heidi8.livejournal.com/913939.html and post anonymously (it'll be screened) so she can coordinate with them about getting the cards - and, ideally, the rest of the contents of the bag - returned.

    This Year's fics
[info]babydraco posted the following meme on her IJ. This is the first year I've written enough to qualify, so here it is:

    FIC MEME

Favorite Story: Garden of Thorns: No it's not my best, and it's not even finished yet, but it's giving me hope that I can finish a long-term project and it's exposing so many of my flaws to my own gaze that I can't help but learn from it. (Mostly the flow of the prose - that needs so much work it's not funny!)

My best story this year: The Afterlives of Sarah Rees Toome. Probably the best thing I've ever written: it's hardly perfect (the last section flags somewhat towards the end) but it's of zine-publishable quality, and I haven't yet written anything else that is.

Most fun story: A Great and Terrible Beauty: A Busy Reader's Guide. Jokes, some dialogue I'm rather proud of and gratifying feedback from the AGATB fandom.

Most Sexy Story: I don't DO "sexy"!

Single Sexiest Moment: See above, though maybe the chapter in Garden where Martha gets confronted by Dream!Pippa has a bit of sexiness in amidst the cringe factor.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you": My Omkara slashfic, definitely :) But I had to write it, not least because it's a shout-out to anyone else who saw that film and thought "Wow, what a twisted pairing!"

Biggest Disappointment: That I couldn't get Garden finished before the release of TSFT: however, I rushed out Chs 15 and 16, and the drop in quality has been reflected in the loss of reviews. Best that I carry on at my usual snail's pace, if by doing so I deliver something actually worth reading!

Biggest Surprise: That I'm able to fill out this poll at all! Not that I could have without [info]babydraco's kind encouragement, for which many thanks :)

Most unintentionally telling story: Garden, of course - after my Snape/Quirrell fic it's obvious I have a jones for painfully-obvious powerplay teacher-student stories. (Don't ask - I've no idea why!) That said, after Garden I plan to take the heroine beyond that, and we'll see whether I can expand my range...
